Binary Ceramics Cactus Organic Form Black Clay & Blue Glaze
930,00 €
Binary Ceramics the cactus is one of nature’s most efficient designs. In the deserts where it evolved, every structural decision is a solution to a specific problem: maximise water storage, minimise exposed surface area, channel rainfall efficiently to the roots, survive years of drought. The ribs, the geometry, the height: none of it is arbitrary. It is engineering in the form of a plant. What draws me to the cactus as a source is not the object itself but the logic underneath it. The columnar form, the radial symmetry, the way structure and function have arrived at the same shape across thousands of species on multiple continents. These are the signatures of an algorithm that nature ran independently, again and again, arriving at the same answer. This piece begins with that logic and takes it somewhere else. The form is generated computationally, with the structural rules of cactus geometry as a starting point, freed from the original biological constraints. The result is recognisably cactus-like without being a cactus. It is what remains when you keep the mathematics and let go of the plant. The black clay body contrasts sharply with the blue glaze, which is applied selectively and reacts differently across the facets of the form. At 45 cm tall, the piece has the scale of a real specimen, present in a room, commanding in a corner.
